Andrew St. Laurent Writes on Issues to Watch For in 2024 Chambers Anti-Corruption Guide
February 13, 2024
Chambers & Partners has featured analysis from Harris St. Laurent & Wechsler LLP Partner Andrew St. Laurent in its updated Anti-Corruption Guide for 2024.
In his analysis, St. Laurent writes that despite aggressive promises by the Biden administration on anti-corruption enforcement, the total number of white-collar prosecutions “is at its lowest since the Reagan Administration.” He did, however, point out several trends that bear watching. These include the administration’s growing focus on cryptocurrency and Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) prosecutions, increased funding for IRS enforcement and the Supreme Court’s efforts to limit common white-collar causes of action. St. Laurent also flags the DOJ’s continuing emphasis on encouraging companies to self-disclose misconduct as worth noting.
The Chambers 2024 Anti-Corruption Guide features insights from handpicked Chambers-ranked lawyers on anti-bribery and anti-corruption legal developments across 22 global jurisdictions. St. Laurent joined two Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer attorneys in writing the guide’s U.S. section.
“2023 saw several changes to the regulatory and enforcement environment for white-collar investigations and enforcement actions,” St. Laurent wrote. “2024 promises more of the same.”
