Vanessa Biondo is an aggressive commercial and intellectual property litigator known for bringing a reasonable approach to business disputes.  Ms. Biondo’s clients rely on her extensive experience in all aspects of litigation and arbitration, from evaluating liability to advising on the best courses of action, negotiating settlements, defeating damages claims and obtaining jury verdicts (including one of the highest awards on record in New York for a trade secret litigation).

Ms. Biondo has litigated trade secret cases, trademark and copyright claims, data security and privacy issues, contract disputes and employment matters for both plaintiffs and defendants. She has also advised clients on compliance with their privacy and security obligations, assisting with the implementation of tools and protocols to protect intellectual property and sensitive information and counseling them on minimizing threats to their business and reputation. Her work spans various industries, including transportation, healthcare, real estate, banking, electronics, music, video games and publishing. Additionally, Ms. Biondo has led several internal, international, and government investigations. Representative matters include:

  • Won jury verdict of over $20 million for a railway industry client in the prosecution of trade secret misappropriation, unfair competition, and unjust enrichment claims against competitor.

  • Represented a semiconductor technology client in patent, trade secret misappropriation, copyright infringement, and antitrust action related to electronic devices used in cell phones.

  • Represented a U.S. designer of solar-powered lights against Chinese-based manufacturers that were marketing and selling counterfeit versions.

  • Won a U.S. arbitration for a global pharmaceutical company in an intellectual property licensing dispute in which the claimant sought more than $140 million in damages; following a nearly four-week hearing, the arbitral tribunal awarded no damages to the claimant.

Ms. Biondo graduated magna cum laude from Princeton University and cum laude from the Georgetown University Law Center. Prior to joining Harris St. Laurent, she was a partner at Mayer Brown LLP. She is admitted to the bar of the State of New York, and of the United States District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York.
