Jaclyn newman

associate


Jaclyn Newman is a litigation and trial attorney in the firm’s New York office.  She advises public and private companies and individuals in high-stakes complex commercial disputes along with pre-dispute counseling. 

Ms. Newman represents plaintiffs and defendants in disputes involving employment matters, breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty, false advertising, fraud, unfair business practices, misappropriation of trade secrets, copyright infringement and trademark infringement claims.

 Her notable representations* include being part of trial and arbitration teams that:

  • Represented a hedge fund in a five week jury trial in the New York Supreme Court’s Commercial Division against breach of contract claims asserted by former employees.  Ms. Newman examined key fact witness in the trial, which ended in a hung jury. 

  • Represented a pharmaceutical company pursuing claims against a former employee, in a three-day bench trial in the Delaware Court of Chancery, for breach of a restrictive covenants’ agreement, breach of fiduciary duties, and misappropriation of trade secrets, resulting in a finding of liability in favor of the client.

  • Represented a Fortune 500 Global IT services leader in a post-merger dispute against an American multinational information technology company, achieving a US $666 million award after a two-week arbitration.  

    Won complete dismissal, on a motion to dismiss in the New York Supreme Court’s Commercial Division, for financial institution in a high-profile case filed by one of its former customers seeking over US$100 million for fraud, breach of fiduciary duty and conversion.

Pro Bono

Ms. Newman has maintained an active pro bono practice, including securing clemency for a domestic abuse survivor who served a decade in prison, and successfully bringing an action to require the disclosure of law enforcement disciplinary records on behalf of the New York Civil Liberties Union.

Past Experience and Education

Ms. Newman graduated from Binghamton University in 2014, where she earned Dean’s List honors.  She graduated cum laude from Cornell Law School in 2017, where she served as an acquisitions editor of the Journal of Law and Public Policy and a bench editor of the Moot Court Board.  Ms. Newman is admitted to the bar of New York.  Before joining Harris St. Laurent & Wechsler LLP, Ms. Newman was a litigation and trial associate at Latham & Watkins LLP.
